"Coastal erosion risk management is an enormously important issue for the thousands of households and businesses already threatened with flooding or coastal erosion, and for the thousands more that may become threatened in the future as our climate changes and our sea level rises"

Curious to know where the coastline on the front cover of the brochure is from ? The answer can be found at the bottom of this page.
Coastal erosion is a problem. Funding is not unlimited and there is a desperate need to develop a long-term, sustainable plan to manage our coastlines. This can only be achieved by challenging current thinking and making better use of our resources.
The New Civil Engineer Coastlines 2008 conference provides a fresh approach to the key issues affecting coastlines. Rather than just an update on funding we will have a frank discussion on how to maximise the available resources. Benefit from a candid debate on SMP’s assessing their value to coastal management, while insightful and revealing case studies focus on overlooked regions including the North East. Coastlines 2008 offers a genuinely different perspective on the issues affecting coasts.
This event challenges conventional thinking and provides new initiatives for coastline management by:
- Debating how to make the best use of the available resources
-
Challenging the role of SMP’s and assessing the alternatives
-
Clarifying the new Practice Guide Companion to PPS25
-
Explaining the jargon and principles behind estuary modelling
-
Integrating strategic planning alongside urban regeneration in tourist areas
-
Examining the challenges and opportunities of working in Wales
